General Agent: Robert Abbate

FIC, CSA, LACP, LUTCF, MDRT Court of the Table

As a General Agent, Bob leads a team of professionals. Members who meet with Bob and his agents find them knowledgeable and passionate about what they do.

The agents are trained to provide the highest level of service throughout the Diocese of Richmond. “Our motivation is to take care of families and their finances today, tomorrow, and for the future,” said Bob. “After all, isn’t that the mission of the Knights of Columbus? Father McGivney’s vision is alive and well in the Abbate Agency.”

In 2005, Bob became an Advisor for the Knights of Columbus in Virginia. He was successful from the start. That same year, he became a member of the Supreme Knight’s Club, an honor reserved for the top insurance producers of the Order. Since 2006, Bob has been a member of the Million Dollar Round Table, an international organization that recognizes the top one percent of financial professionals. He has achieved Court of the Table status within MDRT since 2008. This exclusive honor recognizes the top producers within MDRT. Bob has earned many designations during his successful career, including Fraternal Insurance Counselor (FIC), Certified Senior Advisor ( CSA), and Life Underwriting Training Council Fellow (LUTCF). As General Agent, he mentors all of the Agents in the Agency.

Bob joined the Knights with his father, Carl, in his hometown of Portland Michigan in 1977. “Joining the Knights was about protecting the ones you love,” said Bob, who was engaged at the time of joining the Order. He married his wife, Julie, during their junior year in college in 1980. After college, they embarked on a corporate career that took them all over the country. Each time they relocated, the local Agent would meet with Bob and Julie, and they ultimately built a nice insurance portfolio for themselves. Bob always thought it would be a good career move to one day become an Agent himself.

Today, Bob and Julie live in Virginia Beach and have two sons, Nick and Max – both of whom are now in the family business as Agents in the Abbate Agency. Max has relocated to Williamsburg, Virginia. and Nick has relocated with his family to Richmond, Virginia. Bob is a member of St. Olaf ‘s in Norge, Virginia. Since 2005, Bob has been on the board of directors of Catholic Charities of Virginia and is a frequent guest speaker across the Diocese of Richmond.

Our Award-Winning Team

We share your values and we're here to help.

Our advisors meet with you, as a member or potential member, at NO CHARGE to navigate the world of life planning to make sure you know everything you need to know to protect your family, prepare for the future, and build the legacy you want.

Did you know that your advisor can help you with saving for college? With protecting your income from sickness or accident? With planning for retirement? With tax strategies? To not leave Social Security money on the table?

With providing long-term care for you or your spouse as you age? Help you with transferring wealth to the next generation and beyond?

Did you know your advisor can record the fact that you have a will, power of attorney documents, living wills, etc… and help your family find them and use them in your time of need?

We are the best kept secret around. We have no stockholders taking our profits, as a nonprofit religious organization we have certain tax advantages, have 40 years of A+ or higher ratings by AM Best, and are listed on the “World’s Most Ethical Companies” list. Our profits go back into our “owners” policies and they grow, every year.

Do you have a group policy through work? What if you change jobs? If you have policies already are they participating policies? Do you earn interest on dividends? Do the rates continually go up year after year? Do you have a long term care policy? What happens if you get sick? Do you have a disability policy? What would happen if you were hurt and couldn’t work? Also does the premium dollars or monthly contributions to your retirement or life insurance assist the Catholic faith that you belong to? With our policies they do.

If the above questions concern you or if they are questions you hadn’t stopped to think about, that’s ok. We see the suffering of those who fail to act on these things all the time, and so we have a perspective most don’t have. Set up a meeting with one of our advisors today to get your confidential consultation and answers to your questions.

Knights of Columbus Investment Strategy

We have always maintained very high standards for the investments we make, putting our assets only into investment-grade bonds and the highest-quality equities. We do not invest in junk bonds or in risky investment instruments.

Our unwavering commitment to our Catholic faith and to the Catholic families entrusted to our care also means that we must do business the right way. As a matter of principle, we will not invest in companies that deal in abortions, contraception, human cloning, embryonic stem cell research, for-profit health care that pays for any of the aforementioned, and pornography.
