Mark Hyland
Mark Hyland is a Field Agent with the Abbate Agency serving Catholic Families. In this role he educates, councils and advises Catholic families and businesses on the importance of financial understanding and principles and helps them to achieve their financial goals and aspirations.
Mark was born in Brooklyn, New York, grew up in Staten Island, went to High School in New Jersey. He went to college at The University of Richmond and has lived in Virginia since graduation. Mark has worked on the claims side of the insurance industry since 1984. He began as a claims consultant trainee with The Reciprocal Group, worked in Northern Virginia and Richmond, handling claims throughout the entire state. He assumed the supervisory duties for the claims staff in 11 southeastern states and eventually assumed the title of vice president of claims. He most recently worked as the vice president of claims for York Risk Services, responsible for the handling of the claims for all employees of the Commonwealth.
Mark is married to his wife of 34 years, Bonnie. Mark and Bonnie have two sons, Michael and Matthew, ages 23 and 27. Growing up. Mark coached his sons in many sports, including a 10 year stint as a volunteer assistant track coach at Chickahomony Middle School and Atlee High School. This effort resulted in a nomination from the Principal of the Middle School to run for the Hanover county spirit of volunteerism award. Bonnie is an assistant manager at a local boutique shop, Michael has started his own business in Richmond and Matthew conducts neuroscience research in a lab at San Diego State University.
Mark is the son of Kathy and Ed Hyland. Kathy was trained as a nurse in New York and, prior to his retirement, Ed was a vice president with Merrill Lynch. Mark’s sisters live in Pennsylvania, Los Angeles and San Francisco.
